Bio
Dave Hartman was hired in 2025 to lead the ground-up retooling of the Tigers Softball Program. A distinguished coach with nearly four decades of experience, Hartman joins MCC with a history of developing student-athletes and a track record of championship-level success.
Hartman most recently served as the head softball coach at Creston High School. In just three seasons, he led his squads to two Hawkeye Ten conference titles, including a perfect 20-0 conference record en route to the 2025 crown. Known for their prolific offense, his teams hit nearly 120 home runs, with a school-record 52 in 2025. The 2025 Panthers also set school records for batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.653), and OPS (1.107) while compiling a 32-9 overall record.
Hartman's extensive resume also includes a long and successful career as a high school baseball coach. From 2017 to 2021, he was the head baseball coach at Southeast Polk High School, where he amassed a record of 103-47. He was a key part of the coaching staff for two state championship teams in 2014 and 2015. His head coaching career includes stops at Carroll, Don Bosco, Corning, and West Central Valley high schools, along with collegiate assistant coaching experience at Southwestern Community College and the University of Dubuque.
Hartman's overall head coaching record stands at 439-224, and he has contributed to over 900 wins as either a head or assistant coach. A private instructor for over 30 years, Hartman has a deep passion for teaching the fundamentals and is excited to usher in a new era of Tiger Softball.
